Battle of Waterloo Medal (H1929.59.2)

A Waterloo Medal awarded to William Banfield of the 32nd Foot Regiment. This was the first campaign medal ever issued to soldiers of all ranks who participated in that battle. Designed by engraver Thomas Wyon (1792 - 1817). On the obverse is the head of the Prince Regent, surrounded by the words "GEORGE P. REGENT". On the reverse, a seated angel looking left, over the word "WATERLOO" in a rectangle, with "WELLINGTON" above the angel, JUNE 18 1815 below.
