Medal Collection Summary

Our medal collection spans a period from the early 1800s to the modern day.
It includes many fine examples of military medals starting with the first campaign medal; the Waterloo Medal. Thereafter it covers most of the major British military campaigns of the 19th century but also contains 20th century examples from both World Wars and more recently, the Falklands War. We are also fortunate enough to hold an example of the highest award for bravery, a V.C, which was awarded posthumously to Major George Massy Wheeler in 1915 for his actions in Mesopotamia in WW1.
The collection also includes a range of commemorative medals which reflect British culture, politics and art over the last 200 years. They mark specific events such as Royal deaths and marriages but also celebrate notable achievements and discoveries of international, national and local importance.
